For Comino, 2011 was a big year. The album was finally finished after many false starts, the launch show was booked and seemed to take an age to come by then a minute to pass! Many things have happened, both personally and musically. Firstly, I’d like to thank all the people who helped in the promotion of this record in any way; Sue, Ian, Becky, Ray, KMFM, to name but a few. The feedback that I’ve had from the album has been extraordinary! Different songs touching different people in different ways. I have always set out to be diverse and maybe the biggest compliment I’ve received for this record is that no two combinations of people’s favorite songs seem to be the same!
After a little rest in the wake of the release and the launch party, I feel it’s now time to take to the stage again. It’s where I belong and I cant deny it. It’s beginning to make me itch! So after much thought, I’ve decided to book a small UK tour, reaching some places that I’ve not yet reached and also playing back at the old venues that I’ve played time and time again to old and new fans alike. I cant wait!….
I’d like to thank all the fans who traveled from North Wales, South Wales, the Midlands, and even Scotland to come and see Comino play at the Bowery. I hope you enjoyed the show as much as we enjoyed playing it! I wish you all a very happy new year, and hope to see you very soon!
It is the day after this brand new ‘Comino’ website has gone live and if you’d have told me three years ago that by the time the album is recorded, I would have supported let loose twice, moved from Wales and my beloved hometown Merthyr Tydfil, to Kent and that I will hold the launch party for this new Comino album in Central London no less, I’d have kindly requested that you pull the other one! But here we are…
It’s taken a lot of hard work, playing gigs, a punishing recording schedule, and overcoming many personal obstacles to take my music to the next step up the ladder. Who knows where it will end? As I’ve already said I never thought it would even come this far! So I will continue to be a pain in the ass and plug this music until everyone hears it!
It’s getting there of course. Some recent packed out gigs that I’ve played in London including the let loose support slots and a few showcase gigs in the East end have raised Comino’s profile and that of the forthcoming album beyond my expectations! The lead single morning shine has touched a nerve with many people, which is very pleasing to me as I’ve always thought, since it was written over nine years ago, that it is one of my strongest songs. The response that it gets whenever I play it live and the messages on facebook, youtube and twitter have been overwhelming! These kind of messages are the very reason that we pick up a guitar, or sing into our hairbrush (I did used to have hair at one point!).
Looking to the future, we have the album launch gig! A showcase at The Bowery, in New Oxford Street, London where for the only time this year myself, Daniel Townsend, Tim Burgum and Jim Bob Jones will take the stage to perform the albums songs live! joined on stage by Stephanie Downer and with support from Carmel McGill and The Beth Steel! It really is promising to be a fantastic night! And then of course, there’s the album…
“One” is a very personal album. It is almost a map of my life over the last few years and I feel a reflection on us all as well… What I mean is, who hasn’t been hurt by love and had to reach out to a new partner to ask ‘would you take me on as a broken man?’ how about the the last chorus of I walk this road ‘keep your faith in me and I’ll pull through, surround me with all your loving so I can love you…’ Have you ever felt the need of being nurtured and not ignored through life’s darkest moments?
The bottom line though, through it all… You only get ONE life!… welcome.
